What is the advantage to study medicine in HK for international student?

How can I apply to study medicine in English at Hradec Kralove?

You apply directly to the Faculty here. Application starts the admissions process: a written entrance exam (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Math) followed by an oral interview assessing your motivation and communication skills.

How the admission test look like?

One written test contains three parts – biology (25 questions), chemistry (25q), physics or math (one to be chosen) – 10q. Time limit for the whole test is 2 hours.

Oral part (approx. 10-15min) consists of two questions which show your level of English and dedication to study medicine.

Can I take the admission test online?

Yes, in the middle of May we always held an online written test followed by a video call interview within the next days after the written part.

We also offer exams in many countries abroad through cooperating educational agencies.

How to prepare for the entrance exam?

Examples of examination test and recomnended literature can be found on the faculty website.

What grade point average do I have to have in high school?

You have to have the secondary education completed before the enrollment (we accept 12 years), Cambridge – at least 2x A-level.

No grade point average required, we also do not care about specific subjetcs you take for your finals.

How much do I need to pay?

The tution fee for General Medicine study programme is 400,000 CZK (apro. 16,200€) per a year and 410,000 CZK (aprox.16,000€) per a year for Dentistry. No further significant investments are needed. You can borrow books from the library just for a refundable deposit, and you won't spend much money on equipment (doctor's gown, instruments).

Can international students pay fees in instalments?

Installments are generally not allowed but it is possible to send several smaller payments which would make the full amount by the deadline. Payment is possible via a standard bank transfer, Convera or personally at the cash desk (in cash only in CZK or by card).

Is there scholarship available for students?

Only for excellent study results.

How much will I spend on living?

The cost of living depends on your lifestyle. On average, you will pay 200,000 CZK (8 200€) per year for accommodation, food, and leisure activities.

Are there foundation or prep courses available?

Yes. Charles University offers adaptation and foundation courses (in English and Czech) to help improve your science knowledge, English/Czech language skills, and adjust to university life. More information here.

Is the degree from your faculty recognized internationally?

Yes. Both our General Medicine and Dentistry degrees are fully accredited in the EU and globally recognized. Graduates can continue with postgraduate training or work abroad, depending on local licensing requirements. We provide the verification of the degree at the ECFMG portal. If you want to start your carreer in the US you have to pass the USMLE exams.

Where can I stay and eat?

International students can stay in dormitories in Hradec Kralove, which offer affordable, furnished rooms and easy access to the faculty and hospital. Many students also rent private shared apartments in the city, where housing costs are lower than in most European capitals.


For meals, students can use the university canteen (refectory) serving varied, healthy, and low-cost food, or enjoy the city’s cafés and restaurants with plenty of international and local options.

Can I work while studying?

Yes, some international students work part-time on the weekends or during the summer. Work rules depend on your nationality and visa status. However, working while studying can be very timechallenging.

Is the workload more demanding than other EU medical schools?

Our programme is known for its academic rigor. Students report that it is challenging to stay enrolled, not just to get admitted. Oral exams are manageable with consistent weekly study. If you study hard every week from the beginning the oral final should just consist of casual reviewing.

What international students are in the programme?

In past 30 years we had students from 57 countries from all over the world. Lately the majority comes from UAE, Turkey, India, Japan, Cyprus. No worries you will be in friendly international environment with us.

What student support is available for internationals?

Charles University provides extensive support: Buddy programmes, counselling, orientation services, and social services including the CU Point at the Prague centre.

What is student life like in Hradec Kralove?

Hradec Kralove is known as a green, safe, and student-friendly city. With around 100,000 inhabitants and several universities, it has a lively international community and plenty of activities outside the classroom. Students enjoy bike paths, riverside parks, concerts, theaters, sports facilities, and festivals, all within walking or biking distance. The cost of living is affordable, public transport is reliable, and the welcoming atmosphere makes it easy for international students to quickly feel at home.
